CLP Healthcare Services Changes Name to Hospice Compassus
Brentwood, TN - CLP Healthcare Services, Inc., a leading provider of hospice services, announced today it will change its name to Hospice Compassus to better reflect the all-encompassing hospice work performed across the company`s nearly 50 locations in 15 states.
The new name captures the company's core values of compassion, integrity and excellence while maintaining a community focus and belief that each person's end-of-life journey or grief process is individual and distinctive. Hospice Compassus remains committed to providing quality service, comprehensive end-of-life care and grief support to patients with life-limiting illnesses, their families and their health care team. The name change transition is expected to be completed by May 15, 2009.
"The new name was chosen as it reflects our core mission and encapsulates our organization's values. Compassus is derived from the root of our core value of compassion. In its Latin root, compassus is defined as 'a deep awareness of the suffering of another coupled with the wish to relieve it.' As we embark on bringing together hospice care teams that serve our communities under one name, we recognize that hospice care continues to be defined by each and every patient and family we serve. In light of this, Hospice Compassus has established service standards that ensure we provide tailored, compassionate care to meet the individual needs of patients and their families," said Jim Deal, Chief Executive Officer of Hospice Compassus.
"The company is well positioned to meet the nation's fast-growing hospice needs. The opportunity for hospice care in the U.S. is increasing dramatically due to an aging population coupled with an increasing understanding that hospice care is part of the total health care cost solution. According to the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, approximately 1.4 million people received hospice care in 2007, nearly double the number of patients served in 2000. In addition, a recent study by Duke University revealed that hospice care saved Medicare an average of $2,309 per hospice user. It is evident that hospice care is playing an integral role in America's healthcare continuum," Deal concluded.
As part of its commitment to the ongoing provision of quality hospice care nationwide, Hospice Compassus recently embarked on a national accreditation process through Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) with the first of their affiliates achieving their accreditation in January 2009.
Since 1979, the affiliates of Brentwood,Tenn.-based Hospice Compassus have provided comprehensive end-of-life care and grief support for patients and families in their communities. Through their care, hospice patients are able to live their final days with peace and dignity in the comfort of their own place of residence. Hospice Compassus operates programs in 47 communities across 15 states. The Hospice Compassus identity will be assumed by all of the current CLP Healthcare Companies throughout the nation, including Amenity Hospice; Community Hospices of America; Hospice of the Highland Rim; Hospice Care of Louisiana; Hospice Care of Louisiana/Mississippi; Regency Hospice; RTA Hospice and Palliative Care and Samaritan Care Hospice.
